Club History of the The Redback's ...
"United Suburbs Junior Rugby League Club Inc".
After a meeting of interested parents and supporters in October, 2001, a group of 80 young players, were the foundation of the United Suburbs Junior Rugby League Club Inc. The USJRLC INc. became the only city based club to recognise the needs of young rugby league players.
In its inaugural season in 2002 the "United Suburbs Junior Rugby League Club Inc". entered seven teams ranging from the U/7's to the under 13's into the Townsville & District Junior Rugby League Competition.
The club begun its early days playing at the Oonoonba State School with a move to Shark Park Park that soon followed. As soon as the club expanded a new base and playing fields were needed. Eventually the club was invited to look at William Ross State High School and after various consultations, a long term agreement with Education Queensland was soon entered into.
The club began training from its new home in early 2005.
From its beginnings of seven teams United Suburbs now affectionately known as "The Redbacks", had 238 registered players in 15 teams this season 2007. The club had three teams in the semi final series this year - the U/11's, U/16 White Team &the U/17 team. The club has tasted the ultimate success with premierships in the U/12's and U/13's divisions.
Only the U/11's team progressed into the Grand Final Series this season, only to be beaten on the day. It sets up a good grounding for season 2008.
The club has had many players in Townsville Representative Teams with some going onto represent North Queensland.
The club has a base of volunteers with a mixture of rugby league playing experience and club administration allowing the Redbacks to continue their growth both on and off the park.
The clubs goals are to provide the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy the great game of Rugby League as well as assist in the development of young players. The ultimate goal is for the club to have its own clubhouse
