POSITIONS VACANT
At last Tuesday nights club meeting (Tues. 13th May, 2008), Dave Southgate indicated he would not be apart of "The Redbacks" next season. After 3 years of completing grant applications and being successful with grants totalling $52,000.00 plus in much needed training / office / fund raising equipment etc., and two years of being club secretary and also the Blue Card Co ordinator Dave thinks it is time to move on and allow an Executive and Working Administration Team that can be established and continue the growth on and off the park over the next three to five years.

Brief History of the Club
A group of 80 young players were the foundation of the of the United Suburbs Junior Rugby League Football Club. This was the result of a meeting of interested Parent and Supporters that was held in October 2001,at the Belgian Gardens State School. The Club became only the 2nd Townsville City based Club to cater for the needs of young players wanting to play Rugby League football.
Under the guidance of President Norm Fulmer, Secretary Deb Wilson and Treasurer Jessica Reynolds, seven teams from under 7 to under 13 took to the playing field in early 2002.
An extensive search for an area to call home was conducted, and even with the assistance of the Townsville City Council, nothing of the size that was needed could be found to start things off. Temporary accommodation was found at the new Oonoomba State School, with a move to Shark Park soon after.
Still on the lookout for a bigger training field, discussions took place with WSC Soccer Club, and their offer to share some of Wulguru Park was appreciated.
Eventually the Club was invited to look at William Ross State High School by the Principal, Mr Garry Chew. With the area required, and an offer to make use of various facilities the School had, a long term agreement with Education Queensland was soon entered into, and training at the School early 2005.
From 7 teams in 2002,the club now had 238 players in 15 teams, ranging from under 7 to 17 this season.
In just 4 years a number of teams have reached the Finals, some taking 2nd place, but very importantly the 12's were Premiers in 2003,as were the 13's in 2004 and the 13's again in 2005.
This season (2007) we had 3 teams make it to the semi final series - U/11's Coached by Ray Gauci, U/16 White Team Coached by Mick O'Grady and the U/17 team Coached by Michael Phillips. Unfortunately, for the club only Ray's U/11's made it to the grand final, but they were beaten. It gives the club a good base to progress into season 2008 and to build on the continued growth that "The Redbacks" have enjoyed and continue to enjoy.
The Club has had many Players in Townsville representative teams, with some going on to represent North Queensland.
Two Club Players to have excelled have been Braydon Raye, who was successful in completing a Certificate Two in Sport and Recreation {an Australian Traineeship}with the Cowboys,and Luke Ketchup, who has been offered a Scholarship with the Brisbane Bronco's.
The Clubs Goals include providing the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy playing the great Game of Rugby League Football. To assist in the Development of Young Players, and to eventually build our own Club House.

2005 - Under 13's Win Grand Final against Upper Ross,
Our first ever Under 17's team graduated from the club.
2006 - The 15's runners up - Well done boys on a great season. Also the U11 and 14's made it to the Semis Well done lads.
2007 - The U/11's, U/16 White & U/17 Teams all making it to the semi final series.
U/11's making it to the Grand Final, only to be defeated on the day.
